I am native to Western Colorado, and have spent most my life in the Rifle area. I am a mom of two amazing kids, Elle (16) and Cache (14). I also have a bonus daughter (18), starting her freshman year of college out of state. If you see me randomly crying, I'm fine, everything is fine, but both my babies are now in high school and time is so fleeting! I enjoy being their biggest cheerleader... from Garfield County Royalty to football, basketball, wrestling, baseball and college volleyball. We live on a farm... but really now only have way too many dogs and cats because I am a sucker for Journey Home Animal Shelter, and all my neighbors know I can't turn down an abandoned kitten, or seven. 4-H was also a huge part of our lives and some of our best memories.

Outside of my kiddos I LOVE being outdoors. We live to hike into beautiful lakes and chase waterfalls and wildflowers. I also enjoy camping, paddleboarding, fishing, biking, skiing and driving the backroads to remind myself how lucky I am. We are so blessed to live in a place where everything is out our back door!

I obtained my Bachelor of Science from Arizona State University in 2001 and my Juris Doctor of Law from the University of Denver in 2006. I hold a law license in Colorado and New Mexico. I currently have a solo law practice, focusing in Real Estate as well as Business Matters and Estate Planning. I became licensed as a Real Estate Broker in 2016. I was formerly a managing broker for a mid-sized brokerage, but in 2023 I opened my own Brokerage, Freehold Mountain Real Estate, to focus on my own personal brand and service to the community. I serve, and have served, on several local boards, including currently serving as a Director of the Glenwood Springs Association of Realtors.

Other than that, I still want to be a rockstar when I grow up; because I am obsessed with music. Ihave zero talent in that department so I had to be realistic. Once a dreamer, always a dreamer though!

I love serving my community and my clients. I consider the relationships I have made and continue to cherish to be some of my biggest accomplishments. I look forward to seeing you all out there in the community or across the closing table!

If I can answer any of your questions or explain further as to why I would like to be your 2025 Chair-Elect, please reach out to me!  My door is open.

Matthew Starr

My name is Matt Starr, and I am running for the 2025 Glenwood Springs Association of REALTORS® Chair Elect position.

This is my 33rd year in the business.  I received my Bachelor of Applied Science degree with double majors in Economics and Physics from Vanderbilt University in 1991, and I was first licensed as a commercial Real Estate Sales Associate in Orlando, Florida later that same year. Since then, I have held real estate licenses in Texas and, of course, Colorado.

I have been a Board Director of the Glenwood Springs Association of Realtors (GSAR) since August of 2022 and a Board Director of the Aspen/Glenwood Springs Multiple Listing Service (AGSMLS) since November of 2022.  I also serve as the Treasurer for both the GSAR and AGSMLS.

Our 2024 GSAR Board of Directors has been busy navigating changes to our industry as a result of the NAR Settlement, and behind the scenes we have been addressing our organizational documents.

I worked on the task force that revised our GSAR Policy Governance Document at the first of the year, and as a result I was asked to lead a task force to create a new vision for our GSAR Strategic Plan.  I am proud to announce that our 2024 Strategic Plan was unanimously approved and ratified by the Board of Directors on July 18th.

We addressed Leadership, Communication, Professional Development, Public Outreach, Legislation, and Private Property Rights.

I believe an important part of leadership is casting a vision that lies just beyond our reach.  This forces us to innovate and inspire our membership in order to succeed.

Please take a few minutes to follow this hyperlink and view our 2024 Strategic Plan.

Our GSAR Chair Elect position involves a 3-year term of Chair Elect, Chair, and Past Chair.  Success in these roles depends not only on a knowledge of the real estate brokerage industry, but also an ability to manage organizations and follow through on complex projects.

I have been involved in the development and construction of approximately 3.5 million square feet of land, office complexes, residential and retail facilities located in Colorado, Texas, Northern Virginia, Southern California, and Missouri valued in excess of $330 million – much of it for publicly traded real estate investment trusts. From 2011 thru 2018 I served as general manager for an investment portfolio valued in excess of $250 million.

Over the years I have owned and managed real estate, portfolio management, communications, and retail companies while making my home here on the Western Slope. I have served on the board of numerous non-profit organizations.

You can view my resume for 2025 Chair Elect here.

Real estate has been good to me and my family. I am excited to spend my 33rd year in real estate in support of the GSAR membership and an industry that has given so much.

Please reach out with any questions you may have.

Thank you for your consideration,
